A Year in Review

2014 was a crazy year. So much happened that I can't even begin to comprehend. It seems like it went by so quickly. Though it was full of ups and downs, overall it was a pretty great year. Here are some of my highlights.

Spring Break (April 2014): This was the first year that my family decided to go away for spring break. We ended up going to Nashville, TN for about four days. Even though the weather wasn't the greatest, I still had a blast. My favorite part was going to see Wicked. It was my first time and now I'm obsessed. I also loved that I was able to spend time with my family.

Prom (April 2014): Oh my goodness. Prom was one of the highlights of my senior year. I went with a big group of my friends and we had so much fun. We all got ready together, took pictures, and headed to the venue to dance the night away. There was a photo booth with props, good food, a koi pond, and really good music. Let's just say I had a great time :)

Graduation (June 2014): Graduation was a day that I had been anticipating for months and then it finally arrived. One of my really good friends gave a fantastic speech and all of my friends were able to sit together in the front row. There were over 500 people in my graduating class (which many people think is insane...) but it was such a great feeling to be able to walk across the stage and accept my diploma.

Beach Week (June 2014): Beach week is one of the things that all seniors at my school dream about. The week that the rest of the district is taking exams, the graduated seniors camp out at the beach for the entire week. My friends and I had two plots in the campground and another group of friends had a plot right on the beach. Each day we would walk down to the beach and lay out or play frisbee. Beach week was also the time I got the worst sun burn I have ever had in my entire life. My friends and I decided to climb onto the roof of our camper and lay out up there. It was fun so the sun burn was totally worth it.

Birthday (June 2014): 2014 is the year that I turned 18. I had officially become an adult.

Open House (June 2014): My open house was crazy! For those who don't know, an open house is a social gathering where after graduation, the graduate invites a bunch of people over for food and they in return give gifts and money to help get the graduate started in college. I invited so many people and almost everyone showed up. We had ice cream and I was able to talk to family, neighbors, friends, and teachers who had supported me throughout the years.

Leaving for College (August 2014): I thought this would be much harder than it actually was. I am very much a homebody and didn't think I would be able to survive at college. When the day finally came, I packed up all my stuff and was surprisingly calm through the entire ordeal. I ended up being okay with leaving home and I'm now attending college and loving it.

Chicago (October 2014): There was an opportunity at my college to go to Chicago for the entire day for only $5. I jumped at the chance. I went with a group of friends and we spent the entire day shopping in the city. We ate at Giordano's Pizza and bought giant cupcakes from Water Tower. I also was able to see my best friend Parker because he goes to school in Chicago. He met up with us and showed us around the city. Not only did I make new friends, but I also got to catch up with one of my oldest friends.

Nykerk (October-November 2014): At my college, we have this thing called the Nykerk Cup Competition. It is between the freshmen and sophomore girls. It includes song, play, and oration. This year, I decided to be a part of even year song (I graduate in 2018, hence even year). Our song was "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield. There were over 100 girls in song. We learned all of the lyrics and added motions and props to go along with it. We performed at the competition and even year ended up winning. It was one of the most exciting parts of my first semester.

Once Upon a Time (September-December 2014): It is no secret that Once Upon a Time is my favorite show. Over the summer, I got my sister and my best friend Ashley hooked on the series. When the most recent season premiered, the three of us got together and watched it on Ashley's projector screen. We had such a good time that we ended up having a season finale party (the date happened to be over my Christmas break).

Christmas Break (December 2014): I got out of school a week earlier than my friends because my finals were all on the first Monday of exam week. I went home Tuesday and surprised my sister at her basketball game. The look on her face was priceless. Over Christmas break I was able to spend lots of time with my family and it made me really appreciate being home for such a long time. I caught up with friends and ended the year in a very positive way.

2014 was a great year and I hope that 2015 will be even better!

Hope you are having a great new year!
